Wierdology is the weirdest, wildest multidisciplinary science show on earth…and it's controlled by you, the audience.
Weirdologist and TV Gastronaut Stefan Gates presents an explosive, fast-moving, and often thoroughly disgusting stage show packed with engineering, science and technology stunts…and you get to choose the demos such as: bogies or spit, chemical explosion or pressure explosion, pupil or teacher!
Weirdology is full of hacks, mythbusts and self-experimentation involving a fair amount of pain. It features some of the most audacious, ridiculous and frankly revolting demos in the history of STEM, and it’s all designed to light the touchpaper of fascination in anyone, even those who have never been inspired by STEM. It’s curriculum-led (yes, even the fart stunts) and it’s all brilliantly-designed to make complex science relevant and accessible. This is science served with a hefty side slab of laughter, spectacle and screaming, we’d advise you bring a cloth.
The show comes in various forms and sizes depending on venue and budget. For arenas and large auditoriums we have huge props, inflatables and huge explosions. For smaller venues we have smaller kit, less devastating explosions and more tasting opportunities!
Gastronaut create world-class science stage shows for schools as well as high-profile clients including the BBC, Wellcome Trust, Eden Project, The Royal Society, Big Bang Fair (UK’s biggest science fair), the Science Museum, Abu Dhabi Science Festival and dozens more science festivals, broadcasters and corporations.
In 2018 our shows had total audiences of 155,000. We specialise in high production value, high-energy shows with audience interaction, on-stage volunteers and whole-audience demos. We use rockets, robots, explosions, multimedia, edible chemical reactions, video clips and unusual props to make the experience engaging and educational. The team is headed by BBC writer/presenter Stefan Gates and all shows are highly structured, funny and challenging, yet rigorously fact-checked and meticulously risk assessed. To book this activity, please contact:

Grants for school
The Royal Institution runs two enrichment and enhancement grant schemes. Grants of up to £500 are available to UK-registered state schools to host a STEM activity selected from the STEM Directory.
There are a number of other organisations that offer grants to schools.

Cost is for a London state school. We charge a small premium outside London and for private schools, whilst large-scale events, festivals and corporate events have a completely different scale and cost-structure. We're very friendly so call to enquire.
