Summary
Advance your practice as subject leader and support teaching staff in your school as you work towards outstanding computing. Learn how to capitalise on your equipment, extend your budget and adapt your curriculum and pedagogy to meet the needs of all pupils.
This course will help established primary computing leaders to go deeper into all things computing; making the most of what you already have but also discovering new possible avenues of funding. You will learn how best to improve provision and inclusion and increase subject knowledge and improve pedagogy in computing across your school.
Who is it for?
Subject leaders in primary computing who are established and experienced in the role.

What topics are covered?
01 | Advanced Curriculum Design
A practical session on designing a bespoke unit to replace/adapt an existing computing unit which meets the same objectives, but is tailored to the participants’ school; taking into consideration cultural capital, equipment, cohort knowledge and skill and software available.
02 | Inclusion, SEND & Adaptive teaching
Outlining the rationale for adapting the computing curriculum for SEND & higher ability pupils, explaining the process of how to adapt successfully without loss of rigour and giving time for a practical session on adapting using the Teach Computing Curriculum.
03 | Making the most of your computing budget
Pedagogy approaches and software advice to make the computing budget go further; including avenues and opportunities for funding a school’s computing budget.
04 | Outstanding Teaching
What does outstanding teaching look like in computing? What is the reality compared to expectation, and how do we move forward? Opportunity to explore diagnostic tools to evaluate and improve computing (CQF) - encourage participants to also look more closely at transition between EYFS, KS1, KS2 and KS3.
How will you learn?
You’ll discuss issues with peers and an experienced course leader, comparing practice and learning strategies that are based in evidence. Personalised action planning will help you prioritise the issues for you and your school, ensuring you gain maximum benefit from the CPD.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Reflect upon what outstanding teaching and learning looks like within computing, and use this to evaluate the current effectiveness of computing in your setting
- Adapt the curriculum to better fit your own setting including through adaptive teaching, explaining their decisions
- Identify changes in computing and keep up to date in your role as computing lead
- Understand the funding and grants available to schools to support computing
