Summary

Join our one day physics technicians conference hosted by IMPACT multi academy trust and the South London Science Learning Partnership. During the day you will be able to discuss some of the trickier topics with Chris Pambou, chief science technician at City & Islington College and developer of Labexpert Stock Control Software.
 
Delve into the health & safety and COSHH requirements to ensure you are working safely as a physics technician 
 
We will then look at the required Electricity practicals, identifying key issues and how to get around them, and then setting up and providing support for teachers in the classroom.
 
Discuss tried and tested uses of oscilloscopes and signal generators;  ideas to support student investigations of stationary and standing waves; and the use of data loggers to measure G during freefall.
 
In the afternoon we will turn to atomic and nuclear physics where we will look at electron beams using the Maltese Cross and radioactivity demos.

Outcomes

You will be able to:

  • Develop confidence in setting up and making physics practicals work. Explore relevant health and safety issues around physics preparation and practicals.
