Workshop 1
Option 1: Advanced micro-chemistry Use equipment and techniques that mirror those used in industrial, clinical, and forensic laboratories to perform a wide range of chemical experiments previously requiring macro scale apparatus.
Option 2: Simulations in science Explore the use of online science simulations and replicate them in the lab using simple and readily available items.
Workshop 2
Option 1: Dissection with material supplied by Blades Biological Try your hand at dissecting technique and explore a range of material available from Blades Biological.
Option 2: CSI: whodunit? Including the use of spectroscopy Use your Sherlock instinct in the lab by applying a range of techniques to identify the perpetrator, from simple microscopy and chemical tests to advanced spectroscopy.
Workshop 3
Option 1: Breadboards and logic gates: the old and the new Try your hand at electronics and circuit building with the latest breadboard technology, and contrast that with the use of old logic gate equipment.
Option 2: Aseptic techniques Experience the use of aseptic techniques when working with microbes under sterile conditions.
Workshop 4
Option 1: Smelly science Explore a range of simple lab demonstrations on the science of smells.
Option 2: Puzzle board, component tester, component investigation board. Experience the use of Philip Harris’ products on circuit building and their application to the physics syllabus.
Who is the course leader?
Outcomes
