Outcomes
Details of the workshops:
Workshop 1: 9.30am to 10.30am Jane Winter EYFS - Higher Order Thinking in the Early Years
It is important to encourage all children to use their higher order thinking skills from as early an age as possible. In this session we will think about what higher order thinking looks like in very young children, explore some activities which support children to develop these important skills and discuss how this approach fits in with the early years curriculum.
Workshop 2: 11:00-12noon Hester Binge- Assessing and recording without the pencil
We wouldn’t ask children to show us how proficient they were in Writing by asking them produce a piece of work using the French language, so why do we ask them to show us how good they are at science by writing in English? This workshop encourages you to find different, creative strategies that your children can use to show their proficiency in science, such as role plays, models, persuasive discussions and more. Bonus for you – less time spent marking and an immediate knowledge of where your children are in their science learning.
Workshop 3: 13:00-14:00 Hester Binge- Winning with Gamification
When children play games, they don’t realise they are learning. Creating their own games linked to a science topic deepens learning, understanding and develops scientific vocabulary. Revisiting these games and sharing with others impacts on their learning recall and retrieval and imbeds new science vocabulary . This workshop explores ways to develop more science games in your lessons.
Workshop 4: 14:30-15:30 Alan Edmiston - Stage not age - seeing the world through their eyes'
In order to pitch activities appropriately we need to understand how the SEND learner views the world. In this session Alan will share a range of easy to use activities that are based upon the stage of development rather than the age of the child. The activities are suitable for a range of learners but are designed to support those pupils who are delayed in their thinking and may be many years behind peers of the same age. Supporting the development of a child’s thinking is critical if we are to support them to access the curriculum and lay the necessary foundation for secondary schooling.
Workshop 5 16:00-16.30 Sarah Zaman micro bits
