Cornwall Secondary Science Department Support Package RN913 / E01
Summary
This package has been designed to support all of your science department from ECT’s to subject leaders.
Developed and delivered and administered by the Science Learning Partnership for Cornwall. The STEM Learning Network provides high quality locally nationally developed professional learning on a local basis through Science Learning Partnerships (SLPs). This term we are delivering CPD and Network meetings both remotely and face to face. We are also able to provide advice and guidance pertaining to the science curriculum and to signpost you to resources and other professional bodies who can help.
This School science support package consists of
Subject Leaders Network
Meeting planned in conjunction with David Barton, Executive Officer, CASH (next meeting is 7th September at Wadebridge School).
CASH have recently organised Science Secondary Leader meetings, termly online and will to return to face to face from Autumn 2022. 38 Cornwall Secondary schools are members of CASH.
Technician Network
Cornwall secondary school technicians meet termly, face to face
Technician Network will run termly, 2 hours, face to face, within the school day.
Early Career Network
Although the Early Career Framework includes substantial CPD for ECT, this is not science specific.
In other regions, ECT Networks have been well received. These meetings are remote due the numbers of Science ECTs in Cornwall and will be in collaboration with the SW region.
ECT Network will have 6 sessions per year (half termly), remote, 1 hour, after school.
This will give opportunities for Secondary Science Leads and ECT Science teachers to:
- have access to Early Career CPD that is science specific.
- develop better ECT Teacher retention rates in science; supporting ECTs with science-specific CPD and also promoting collaboration is worthwhile and also adds capacity to science departments who are developing their ECTs.
- develop a needs analysis to inform the SLP programme.
Pedagogy Network
The teachers that are not ECT but also not Subject Leaders can be missed from CPD programmes, this network is designed to support those teachers that are established and focused on developing and honing their T&L, and networking with others.
Aspects of T&L will be explored using the contexts of all three sciences as examples within each session and in addition, the SLP will include subject knowledge specific CPD, guided by local needs.
As focus will use each of Biology, Chemistry and Physics contexts, sessions will support those teaching out of specialism.
Secondary Conference
A one day conference to be used as a showcase of what STEM Learning, Science teachers and key note speakers can offer in Cornwall.
If you want any further assistance with the booking of this package please email slpswwm@adfecto.org.uk and we will assist.
