Summary

Develop subject knowledge and teaching strategies to confidently deliver the maths elements of the GCSE science specifications. You will apply these skills, using appropriate resources, in biology, physics and chemistry contexts. 

In this session, you will develop an understanding of the basics of algebra and an understanding of why some students find algebra difficult. You will explore the link between simple algebra, graphs and proportional reasoning.

Outcomes

During this session you will:

  • Develop an understanding of the basics of algebra and an understanding of why some students find algebra difficult
  • Consider notation used and definitions used
  • Explore the link between simple algebra, graphs and proportional reasoning and conclude that formula triangles are not a good starting point
  • Develop an understanding of how to explain how three variable formulae are derived from first principles
