Summary

17th November - Metacognition and self-regulated learning in science

  • Explore how the interplay of knowledge, planning, monitoring, and evaluation determine a successful approach to learning.
  • Consider the barriers to self-regulated learning and various strategies that can develop metacognitive skills in your learners.

 

8th December - Physics for non-specialists

  • Become more confident and competent in your teaching of physics at 11-16.
  • Develop an understanding of common student misconceptions and how these can be addressed.
  • Employ the effective use of scientific models relevant to the teaching of physics.

 

19th January - Using the Ofsted research review: science to move your curriculum towards excellence

  • Highlight the key findings of the Ofsted research review: science 2021 and provide a facilitated forum for sharing ideas with peers.
  • Evaluate your curriculum against Ofsted's findings and plan next steps in the development of your curriculum.

 

30th March - Developing mastery in a challenging KS3 curriculum

  • Evaluate current key stage 3 curriculum plans to ensure they provide progression from key stage 2 for all students.
  • Gain a true understanding of the level of science delivered through the key stage 2 programme of study and identify areas where contents and skills are retaught rather than retrieved and progressed.

 

22nd June - Maximising learning in practical science

  • Develop tools and strategies to ensure that practical work that you incorporate into your teaching / curriculum is purposeful and builds on prior learning.
  • Plan progression through the curriculum from the perspective of both substantive and disciplinary knowledge that is required for practical’s to be completed successfully.
