Summary

Do you wish you had the knowledge to answer your children's questions about the natural world and also to do some practical science outside with them?

This full day practical outdoor course will be held at Middleton North Estate. Middleton North is a small estate in the heart of Northumberland, located 9 miles West of Morpeth. It currently comprises a mixture of arable, pasture, woodland and a stretch of the river Wansbeck.

"In a world where our wildlife is becoming extinct at a frightening rate, we are setting up an oasis where animals, wild flowers and even ancient fungi can thrive." - Charlie Bennett.

The day will immerse you in the outdoor classroom and will act as a vehicle to improve your own knowledge and how you can apply this within your own classroom. This very practical course will develop, and improve, your understanding of the key concepts within biology, science and scientific enquiry, covering many aspects of ecology and environmental science.

Outcomes

As a result you will develop a greater understanding of the natural world, learn to ID animal and plant species, carry out your own experiments and fieldwork and see how you can use the natural world and practical scientific enquiry within your classroom. At first hand you will experience a range of activities that you can use with your pupils. A key focus will be upon how we can all use the natural world to develop pupil's independent thinking and reasoning.

Exemplar materials and video tutorials will be provided as part of the training.

Please note that this course is suitable for all participants, regardless of the amount of outdoor space or grounds you have in your own school. There is no expectation that schools have large 'Forest School' type areas to participate in this course.
