Summary
Using authentic contexts in computing is a route to enable pupils to engage with often quite abstract and challenging ideas. Providing familiar or real-world contexts can help show children how computing is integral to the world around them and support learning as it feels
relevant to them.
This course looks at reasons why a context-based approach for primary computing may benefit learning. It considers what authentic contexts maybe including: topics, stories, real-life and work contexts. You will have a go at various context-based computing activities and evaluate which support the aims of the computing curriculum.
Sessions will be structured to support teachers to plan ideas that meet the needs of the pupils in their school, whilst developing their awareness of computing
