Assessment and progression in primary science by Gill Fair:

Evidence shows that effective assessment for learning leads to raised attainment. Without formal levels we need to understand how to make judgements about children’s achievements and progress. This workshop will examine ways to integrate and embed assessment practices into your schools science teaching.

Outcomes: You’ll gain knowledge of a range of AfL strategies that effectively promote children’s learning. You will acquire a deeper understanding of progression by learning to confidently assess children’s learning in science and identify next steps.

Primary science pedagogy by Claire Raxworthy-Cooper

In this webinar we will look at the questioning aspect of primary science pedagogy and how this can improve the teaching and learning of science by allowing pupils to think of their own investigative questions to follow. We will share ideas of how children can go from question, to investigation, to conclusion to underpin their science learning.

Purposeful practical work in primary science by Dr Jenny Watson

One issue in children's science learning is that children's practical work is often prescriptive and lacks purpose - ‘hands on’ rather than ‘minds on’. This workshop will discuss questions like: Why we should make primary science practical?, How do we teach the NC science content through working scientifically?, How do I fit enquiries into a short science lesson? and What if the children get the wrong answers?

Curriculum progression in primary science by Dr Jenny Watson

This workshop will discuss resources and ideas for promoting progression in both substantive (conceptual) and disciplinary (WS) knowledge, so that children extend their prior learning, rather than repeating this, and are provided with the solid NC foundations they need for future science learning and making sense of the 'bigger picture' of Science in the real world.
