Summary

In this STEM Learning Bites session Peter will be introducing the ground breaking University of York Science Education BEST resources, a large collection of free evidence-informed diagnostic questions and follow-up activities for secondary aged students and explaining how they can be used to help maximise students’ progression.

Peter has over 28 years of science teaching experience, specialising in Physics, in schools from Barnsley to Guyana to North Yorkshire. During his teaching career, he has held many leadership roles including for Special Educational Needs, Physics (11-19) and for 15 years he successfully led the science department for a large comprehensive school in York.

In 2018 he joined the University of York, Department of Education as part of the University of York Science Education Group (UYSEG).  Drawing on his masters degree in curriculum development in science education and his school experience in developing and improving science curriculum, Peter is the lead physicist for the Best Evidence Science Teaching project (BEST).

STEM Learning Bites give STEM teachers the opportunity to access experienced education professionals in a given field to help improve their practice.  Each month there will be a guest speaker who will introduce their area of educational expertise which is then followed by a discussion.
