Summary

 

This course addresses the issues that language barriers pose in the teaching and learning of science. You will be able to consider the nature of these barriers and how techniques such as substitution tables, translanguaging, exploratory talk and directed activities can make your science curriculum fully inclusive and accessible for all learners.

Outcomes

Participants will be able to:

  • identify EAL learners in your class and understand the nature of the problems they face
  • develop practical strategies that can improve the accessibility of science lessons for EAL learners
  • consider the ways in which your science curriculum can be developed to become fully inclusive for EAL
