Making Links with Maths in Science RJ298 / C65
Summary
Throughout this course you will identify how to maximise your pupil’s opportunities to develop their numeracy skills, measuring and statistical maths (data handling) and improve attainment in science by planning lessons in which children have the opportunity to apply their mathematical skills in a practical environment.
In this course the ideas of Piaget will be used to support your understanding of pupil's mathematical reasoning. Building on the ideas in CAME and CASE a range of sample activities will be shared that will enable you to enrich the curriculum with opportunities for you to support, develop and extend your pupils numeracy skills.
CAME and CASE (Cognitive Acceleration and Science and Maths Education) are well regarded reasoning projects that have shown to impact pupil thinking in mathematics and science.
Together we will:
Plan science activities that develop mathematical skills
Identify the progression of mathematical and science skills
Use science activities to effectively assess mathematical skills
Day 1 & 3 of this course will include some live teaching and demonstration which means you will have ideas to take back to school and implement straight away with your pupils.

Outcomes
Day 1 and 3 of this course will include live teaching that will be used to exemplify the key aspects of developing the numeracy skills necessary for success in science. Day 2 will be delivered remotely, with dates arranged between the presenter and participants during day 1.
