Summary
Computing in primary schools is a practical, creative and knowledge-rich subject. This introductory session provides trainee teachers with the knowledge and confidence to get started on the journey to outstanding computing.
You will receive an introduction to the following topics:
- Learn how computing has evolved as a subject and why a good standard of computing education is crucial to pupils’ career opportunities in future life.
- Develop an understanding of the three strands of the curriculum, being Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy, considering what kinds of activities might fit into each strand.
- Find out what resources are available – Your local Computing Hub, teachcomputing.org, CAS, Barefoot, code clubs etc.
- An introduction to algorithms at Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 levels including plugged and unplugged activities.
- Teacher Tips and Strategies
- How to create an action plan
