Summary

The benefits of learning outside the classroom are numerous and wide-ranging, including providing opportunities for experiential and applied learning, and access to different resources. School grounds also provide additional space, fresh air and a connection to nature, factors increasingly valued in the current climate. This will be an interactive session – we want to share your ideas and experiences, and give you the opportunity to try out some simple activities.

Outcomes

This session will consider how to maximise opportunities for teaching science within your school grounds, exploring:

  • The benefits of learning outside the classroom environment
  • Principles and concepts relating to managing groups and facilitating learning outside
  • Models to help you plan activities, considering benefit and risk
  • Lots of ideas linked directly to the primary science curriculum
