This programme of CPD covers teaching students with special needs (both those with and without an EHCP) The course looks at teaching these students, the resources & activities you can use with them and strategies for success. The course also includes a look at some of the most common specific needs identified in the DfE student census and strategies that can be used to support these learners in lessons.

- To be able to identify suitable strategies and activities for teaching students with SEND
- To select suitable resources for teaching these learners
- To clear misconceptions and introduce correct strategies for the most specific needs of learners in the latest DfE census.
Target audience
Secondary phase - Early career stage teachers (especially those completing their ITE), NQTs and teaching assistants.
Facilitator biography
Rob Butler was a special school science teacher for twenty years, working with SEND learners in mainstream schools before that. Rob has written the ELC/GCSE foundation workbook for OUP and regularly writes for Education in Chemistry and the ASE. Rob is a lead facilitator for STEM learning and the field officer for the ASE’s Midlands region. Rob is passionate about improving the quality of science provision for all those with SEND or prior low attainment.
