KS3 science for non-scientists NY285 / A20
Summary
Are you teaching KS3 science for the first time? Would you like to understand the misconceptions students have, and how best to address them?
This course has been designed to focus on the key principles needed to teach science effectively through the use of stimulating practical activities and demonstrations. We will explore and refine the understanding of key topics like energy, cells and chemical reactions. We will look at cutting edge research that will link the learning to students' everyday lives and look at scaffolding the learning to show rapid and sustained progression.
This course will be delivered over a number of sessions, some of which will be delivered remotely on the days and times detailed below, with those later in the year being delivered face to face at the National STEM Learning Centre in York. To participate in full, you will need to ensure you have dedicated time away from the classroom for the remotely delivered elements of this course, as you would if this were a face to face course.
We will take regular breaks and structure the content so that it is interactive and impactful. You must attend all sessions in order to receive the bursary, and sessions will not be recorded. For more information on remote delivery, please visit https://www.stem.org.uk/remote-courses-for-teachers
