Summary

NQTs face many challenges at the start of their career, and those starting in September 2020 will also have to contend with a unique set of circumstances. With a disrupted training period and schools operating in different ways, the need to guide teachers effectively through the early stages of their career has never been more important. Join us for this free, exciting session where a group of experts will share some of the research into developing and retaining the best science teachers as well as on the ground advice from experience mentors and ITT tutors who understand the impact that school closures have had on ITT students this year. NQTS, mentors and anyone interested in supporting early career teachers into next academic year are welcome.

There will be an opportunity to share your own ideas and suggestions, as well as ask questions of the panel which includes Dr Sam Sims, an education researcher from UCL who authored the Gatsby report ‘increasing the quantity and quality of science teachers in schools: eight evidence-based principles’.

This session will the first part of a programme of support on offer through the Science Learning Partnership for Science NQTs and their mentors, including a series of online and face to face networking sessions and a one-day conference (dates and venues to be confirmed).
