Critical Thinking for Achievement RK100 / D01
Summary
The Critical Thinking for Achievement programme provides free DfE funded CPD for primary and secondary teachers of science (and geography), to strengthen their subject knowledge and build confidence and capability in curriculum planning and teaching. The CPD is designed to develop critical thinking skills in students from primary age up to those taking GCSE exams. Based on a plan-do-review structure, all teachers will have the opportunity to apply their learning to tackle issues in their own schools and classrooms.
The CPD will introduce a set of strategies to develop critical thinking skills that you can take and use in your classroom straight away. This CPD is split over two workshops and it is an expectation that delegates will complete both workshops, trying some of the strategies in your own lessons and producing a short report for the DfE (full support will be provided) Delegates also get access to free resources from the Geographical Association and the Association for Science education if they complete both days.
Outcomes
• Increased teacher confidence of what critical thinking skills are and what they look like in the classroom
• Increased teacher confidence using a range of strategies to develop pupils' critical thinking skills in science and geography
