KS3 Science - A Preparation for KS4 RE342 / K01
Summary
The new science GCSEs make new and higher demands of both teachers and students. The amount and difficulty of the subject matter has increased, and students need to have well developed practical skills. These changes have meant more and more schools are treating GCSE as a five year course, with skills and knowledge built from day one into a consistent programme of preparation.
This course will help you consider the reasons for a five year GCSE course, and help you devise a long term plan to develop the programmes of study at your school.
Outcomes
You will be able to:
- understand the existing curriculum environment: GCSE demands, working scientifically, KS3 wasted years and science at primary level
- understand the options for KS3. What and how much subject matter should we deliver? Does it matter what subject matter we teach? How do we develop the skills required for ‘working scientifically’?
- create a plan for developing the five year GCSE science programme of study at your school
