Towards outstanding in science RD838 / I03
Summary
The six day course is suitable for those seeking to improve their science teaching and have yet to undertake positions of responsibility in their schools. Throughout the course there will be an opportunity to develop skills and expertise to teach consistently excellent science lessons. Using training materials from the Science Learning Centre programme and highly experienced tutors, participants will learn what constitutes high quality classroom practice and be given stratergies to immediately implement in their own schools. The course encourages reflection and evaluation of strategies employed.
Outcomes
You will be able to:
• explore and evaluate key pedagogical approaches in science including practical work, literacy and active learning techniques
• learn to use data to identify and improve progress in science lessons
• develop new practical techniques to teach more effectively
• consider how to adapt existing schemes of learning and meet the demands of curriculum changes
• explore a range of ideas for addressing accessibility to science for students of varying needs and abilities
