Summary

This twilight session will address ways to reveal and tackle common misconceptions that prevent students from progressing in science. We will also consider threshold concepts - what they are and why they can form barriers to pupil progress.

This course is aimed at early career teachers – those in the first 5 years of their practice; although anyone who wants to brush up on these skills is welcome to attend.

Outcomes

You will be able to:

  • Identify common misconceptions in science (and how to elict them).
  • Understand what we mean by threshold concepts and their importance to pupil progress.
  • Develop ways of planning to address student misconceptions (and enhance progress).
