Impact chemistry day RD339 / A01
Summary
This CPD will be delivered in collaboration with Impact Fluid Solutions and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). It will enable teachers to link with industry professionals to enhance subject knowledge, widen understanding of the technical concepts used in the industry and to develop an understanding of chemistry and STEM career pathways in the industry.
Impact Fluid Solutions is a premier provider of specialty additives to oil and gas operators, fluid companies and oilfield service providers. By combining advanced chemistry with extensive oilfield expertise, they deliver next-generation fluid solutions purpose-built to solve complex drilling, cementing and completion challenges—and proven in basins worldwide.
Teachers will be given an introduction to the day by Phil Bowles one of the senior scientists and a tour before taking part in practical activities with lab manager Paul Craddock. The day will also feature an RSC session delivered by Kate Whetter, Education Coordinator for South West England.
This is a Learn Chemistry Partnership event. The Learn Chemistry Partnership is a free programme which enables schools to connect and make the most of activities and resources.
Outcomes
You will be able to:
- link the real-world STEM contexts to the curriculum and enhance schemes of learning with real-world examples to inspire your students
- link STEM career pathways to learning to help your students to make better decisions about career choices
- enhance subject knowledge and understanding through the sessions which will be led by industry specialists
- develop links with the sector that can be used by your school or college to deliver the curriculum and to enhance science capital
