Summary

Engineering bench skills is the first modular based course which will focus on developing key practical skills that teachers and technicians required for the successful delivery of metalworking craft activities and core SQA based Engineering craft skills coursework.

This will involve using a range of basic hand tools and equipment.

The course will be delivered through a range of practical tasks which will allow support technicians and teachers to gain confidence and skills in using the equipment to perform a number of operations in a safe manner.

Practical work will be supported by demonstrations from professionals and key presentations where appropriate.

There will be opportunities for professional networking and participants will be offered a rich and vibrant programme that will allow them to enhance the teaching and learning within their institutions.

Outcomes

You will be able to:

  • work with a range of basic metalwork hand tools
  • prepare and properly mark out metal
  • demonstrate how to cut metal using the most appropriate method
  • demonstrate how to shape and finish metal
  • set up and perform drilling operations safely
  • develop skills and knowledge of safe working practices
