Using cutting edge space science to bring the curriculum to life RC461 / G01
Summary
In addition to the generous £180 RCUK bursary, a further bursary of £70 is available from the Leicestershire, Leicester and North Northamptonshire Science Learning Partnership for attending this event. A total of £250 is therefore available to support this CPD.
This inspiring day gives teachers the opportunity to learn about cutting edge science in the exciting field of space physics directly from two leading researchers. There will also be workshops supported by experienced physics teachers on how to apply this knowledge to deliver the physics curriculum in an engaging and inspirational way.
Dr Chris North, contributor to the BBC’s ‘Sky at Night’, popular author and lecturer at Cardiff University, will explore the dawn of Gravitational wave astronomy; explaining how they are created, detected and what the future may hold.
Dr Alan Wood, leading authority on space weather and Senior Lecturer at Nottingham Trent University will be discussing the Northern lights; how our understanding has developed and the other effects of space weather on human activity.
Outcomes
You will be able to:
- have increased knowledge of cutting edge research in the field of space physics
- be able to use this knowledge to enhance delivery of the physics curriculum at KS4 and KS5.
- be able to engage and enthuse their students with the latest research
