Form 2 at Great Ballard have begun to experiment with growing seeds in different habitats. We hope that this will help us understand how to help plants grow in a hostile environment such as mars!
They have planted mixed salad leaves in a dry sand tray (to represent the desert), a wet and cold earth tray (to represent an English climate) and a warm, wet compost tray (to represent the rainforest) and have made predictions about which tray will have the most life. We hope to show that any mission to mars will need to keep their growing areas warm, wet and well lit to make the most food for the colonists. We will post again in a couple of weeks to report on the results!
