The week in the Algarve seems as though it happened ages ago. Those odd jobs around the house have been completed and then finally, reality hits home as you head back into school to take on the next lot of students studying the maths GCSE.

The new term is a time for reflection on the previous two years, identifying what worked and what needs to improve. It is a testing time for anyone responsible for challenging and supporting a mathematics department in a secondary school. Whether you are a senior leader line managing a department, the head of maths for an academy chain, a head of department, or anyone with responsibility within a secondary school.

You’ll be asking yourself: what does a good lesson look like? What will OFSTED expect to see? What support is available for my mathematics department? But fear not – we’re on hand to help you get the answers!

On Friday 20 October 2017 we’re hosting a conference at the National STEM Learning Centre in York that will explore these questions and give you the support your department needs. Our Challenging and supporting your mathematics department CPD features leading names in mathematics education, including Dr Colin Foster, Jane Jones HMI and Carol Knights.

There will also be a range of workshops around good teaching practice, helping you to discover new resources and share your teaching experiences.
