It's all about: Making- Tinkering- Sound- Sustainability- physics- Electronics- Play- NOISE
Most of my work uses the trading name of Noisy Toys (noisytoys.org) which now operates as part of a Community Interest Company 'Scavenger Labs' (scavengerlabs.org.uk)
My specialisms include:
- Designing & building interactive sound installations that employ mechanical and electrical controls to manipulate acoustic and electronic sounds. These are built from upcycled e-wasts, acoustic objects and broken instruments.
- Performing stage shows about various aspects of the science of sound. Current is show is 'Bass in your Face', as featured at the Big Bang Fair, Maker Faire UK, National Science & Media Museum, many Secondary & Primary schools nationally as well as other regional Big Bang & other STEM related events.
- Delivering workshops in schools and other educational settings. I am a qualified teacher with over ten year's experience. The main workshop that I offer 'Scavengers' is the culmination of my teaching experience and the most effective learning content of Noisy Toys. Scavengers develops creative and technical skills with hands-on activities, fun, weird noises and deep bass.
- Performing walkabout/science-busking with the Audio Assault Buggy; a mobile steampunk noise lab.
I started Noisy Toys in 2007 to fulfil the need for participatory music and inspirational science in education. During this time I have butchered hundreds of computers and spawned many strange new instruments out of their acoustic, mechanical and electromagnetic parts.
