I am an experienced Mathematics Adviser with significant recent involvement in driving forward change in the teaching of mathematics, often in schools in challenging circumstances. I also have recent experience working with inexperienced and / or non-specialist teachers both in school and on-line. I am also tutor on an online Subject Knowledge Enhancement course for mathematics. I work with colleagues and students to build both their own confidence in their subject knowledge and their understanding of pedagogical subject knowledge. I am a clear thinker who can effectively synthesise research and policy into coherent strategic and operational planning. I have delivered success in large scale high value educational development including developing a strategic approach to the delivery of Functional Skills in Mathematics.
I am a chartered mathematician, member of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) and member of their Schools and Further Education Committee. I am a trustee of the General Council for Association of Teachers of mathematics (ATM) and a member of the outer circle ACME (Advisory Committee for Mathematics Education). I am a Science learning consultant and have worked with STEM teachers both in the UK and in Morocco working for the British Council. I am also very interested in how very young children learn and I have completed the NCETM Primary Professional Lead development course to further my understanding. I have also worked with Primary teachers in Shenzhen China and also with a London local authority to develop a LA wide approach to problem solving in Primary schools.
