Professional Development Leader at the National STEM Learning Centre and free-lance education consultant. I specialise in working with ITE trainees, teachers, science technicians and school leaders to develop active science learning, specialising in literacy through science, assessment for learning and biology.
I have many years experience as a secondary science teacher in 11-18 state schools, including time spent as a head of subject, KS3 science co-ordinator, primary - secondary liaison lead and cross curricular lead for environmental and health education.
My work teaching biology, chemistry and physics to GCSE and biology and human biology A level has given me a life long interest in what makes teaching effective. Most recently I have worked with schools in the North East of England as a Science Adviser and been involved in a variety of projects including; practical work in science, developing teaching and assessment for learning resources and promoting student understanding of stem cells and cloning. I am a CLEAPSS badged trainer for microbiology and a member of the ASE and Royal Society of Biology.
My areas of interest include teaching science and biology, developing literacy and numeracy through science and thinking skills. I have recently been awarded a Master of Education degree and enjoyed developing my interest in science education and online learning.
