I have been teaching for over 20 years and have had a number of responsibilities ranging from PE, PSHE, computing and Mathematics. My present role is Maths and Computing Logical Thinking Lead.
I am an enthusiastic and energetic teacher passionate and proactive in life-long learning. Throughout my life have questioned and sought out information, ideas and theories on a variety of things, some work-related and some just because I want to know more about something I read.
I have recently completed a Masters at Southampton University in Education, Practice and Innovation, achieving a Distinction. My dissertation was titled 'The challenges and affordances of developing computational thinking within a Primary Classroom through Programming.' This has lead to a variety of opportunities, including being part of a panel who have produced a report on Assessment within Computing for the DFE and being asked to do a number of presentations on computational thinking and how it can be developed within the classroom.
I am presently enrolled on a course - Pedagogy of Mathematics at University of Winchester. Whether it leads to a Diploma or I decide to pursue it to a Masters level will depend on my interest in the early models. As part of my new role within Mathematics I have also been successful in securing a place for the school on a research project in Mastery Teaching within school (NCETM - Solent Hub) and I am presently on a course entitled 'Teaching for mastery in mathematics'.
As part of my role I am involved in implementing the new mathematics curriculum across the keystage, implementing the planning, assessment and moderation of the subject and as part of this I am actively involved in supporting staff in planning and resourcing mathematics.
As part of the computing role I have responsibility for developing the Learning Platform and the use of it, amongst children and staff . This is an area I am particularly interested in and have become involved in working with and presenting for the company who provide our learning platform.
