Mind the Maths
Rogério Martins is the writer and presenter of a TV show on maths (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RymBcyfQS4) featured in the portuguese main news channel. Now in its 11th season, connects maths to almost everything: from animal skin patterns, Drake’s formula, to the circadian rhythm.
He has a PhD and more than fifteen years’ research and lecturing experience in maths. Has given four TEDx, and dozens of talks for teachers’ events, the general public, and schools. Most of which include experiments and props like metronomes, bikes, and riding a unicycle!
In his opinion, mathematics is more than a language: it’s the material from which scientific bridges are made. If you want to know the strange and curious relation between the buoyancy of objects on water and his bicycle tracks - the very same bike that computes the area of a piece of paper - he is the right person for your event!
There will be a bike on stage and several experiments with his aquarium as well. The visit to a school includes a talk/show and a workshop that complements the show.
