Practical activities are a great way for young people to practice, learn and understand the STEM skills that you use every day.
Developing a practical activity may seem daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. We know the positive impact that delivering practical activities can have, and we want to support you to develop and enjoy delivering them.
The Powerful Practicals training aims to guide and support you through the process of creating, developing and delivering practicals. With advice on health and safety, planning and pitching your message at a useful level, this training will help you build something interactive into all your STEM Ambassadors activities, from careers talks to off-timetable days.
The training is available as a two-hour face-to-face training and as an online toolkit.
It is delivered by your local STEM Ambassador Hub. If there are no sessions due to run in your local area, there may be sessions nearby from neighbouring Hubs. For more information, please contact email@example.com
The Powerful Practicals training is also available as an online toolkit for STEM Ambassadors to help you design and develop practical activities. The toolkit is available as a series of PDFs:
- Chapter 1 – Getting Started
- Chapter 2 – Turning an idea into a real session
- Chapter 3 – Getting feedback and sharing ideas
- Chapter 4 – FAQ
- Chapter 5 – Planning and delivering practical chemistry activities
The Powerful Practicals training and toolkit were developed with the kind support of the Gatsby Charitable Foundation. Chapter 5 was developed as part of the Bringing Chemistry to Life programme, based on Powerful Practicals, and supported by the Royal Society of Chemistry.
