Countdown numbers
This STEM activity supports pupils to solve addition, subtraction, multiplication and division multi-step problems in context, giving them the opportunity to decide which operation to use and justify why. This activity is based on the Countdown TV show, pupils will be asked to select 5 random numbers and work out a solution using these numbers to get as close to the target as possible, before presenting their ideas. This activity can be differentiated to be used across the entire primary curriculum and has been provided by the IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology).
