Home Security
Students first evaluate existing alarm systems and learn about a burglar’s attitude towards them using a video featuring reformed criminals. They are then briefed to create a working door access and alarm system using a BBC micro:bit and selected input and output components such as LDRs, reed switches, buzzers and piezo ‘sound bombs’. The solution must then be programmed using Block editor, Touch Develop or JavaScript in the Code Kingdoms editor, all accessible via the micro:bit website. Students can then be challenged to introduce two improvements to the system that would deter burglars. This resource would be suitable for an extended ‘off-timetable’ day, or for study over a series of lessons.
