Dinosaur Fossil Animation Sequence Activity

This Barefoot Computing animation project for primary school computing teaches the concept of sequencing within programs. Children use costumes and a range of commands in Scratch to produce purposeful multimedia. They are encouraged to debug and improve the program, and can extend the challenge by recording sound as well as requesting user input such as key presses.

The subject of the animation is fossilisation - by simplifying this process the idea of abstraction is introduced.

Children are encouraged to collaborate and to share their work and the methods they used. Paired coding can be used to support less confident learners.

A range of assessment opportunities are available that uncover computational thinking as well as software skills.

This activity is part of the Barefoot Computing project.
