Teaching mental strategies - number calculations in years 5 and 6

This book helps children think out of the box when they tackle number calculations. It's part of a series of three books for teachers and maths coordinators working with children in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Each book contains a mathematical set of challenges which you can use as classroom activities. The mental strategies underpinning the calculations involved are described on the facing page, along with clear guidelines for the teacher on how to build children's skills and confidence in the crucial aspect of numeracy.
