Telecommunications: a technology for change
Published to coincide with the opening of a major new gallery at the Science Museum, this book traces the history of telecommunications and looks at its many different uses, from the telegraph to the space probe. It starts with the discovery that electricity would travel along wires, and the subsequent invention of the telegraph. As well as describing the spread of the telegraph network and the invention of the telephone, it also shows how many branches of technology have come together to make possible the world-wide network of telecommunications we are familiar with today.
