Maths at work

This book illustrates the value of mathematics in people's working lives. It demonstrates how a knowledge of mathematics can often be used in unexpected circumstances to assist with the solution of real problems - for example, how mathematics is involved in the life and death decisions of medicine, how it can give evidence as to guilt or innocence in a court case, how it can predict the most appealing filling for an apple pie or the optimum shipping capacity of the Suez Canal.
