Personalised Medicine
This resource focuses upon a field known as pharmacogenomics – this combines pharmacology (the science of drugs) and genomics (the study of genes and their functions) to develop effective, safe medications and doses that will be tailored to a person’s genetic makeup. Personal genome sequencing is used to diagnose patients with rare conditions or predict a person’s susceptibility to a medical condition. Then medications are prescribed based on the person’s genetic make-up. Activities provide a debate/discussion platform for students. The resources include a summary of the research upon which they are based.
