Students are asked to design and make a club sandwich with 3 layers of bread that would appeal to a wide range of multicultural consumers that use a school cafeteria. To begin students are presented with a range of unfamiliar foods which they can use a range of senses (Look, touch, taste, smell) to identify. Sandwich fillings from across the world are explored. Students then produce sketch designs and justify their ideas.

Students write a step-by-step plan of how you will safely produce their chosen sandwich idea. They then have 20 minutes to produce a sandwich products, some guidance and scaffolding is expected in order for students to work to a tight making deadline. After making the sandwich students focus on developing their evaluating skills by producing a star profile evaluation, using their own range of sensory words. They also produce their own written paragraph which discusses how well their sandwich met the design brief that was given.
