Science Capital is a concept that can help us to understand why some young people have a science identity, seeing science as being ‘for me’ and others do not. The more Science Capital a young person has, the more likely they are to continue with science post-16. As a STEM Ambassador you can help build the Science Capital of students every time you talk to a young person or group of people about their career by becoming that person they know in a STEM-related role. It is hoped that by building the Science Capital of young people, you will directly contribute to help improve young people’s life chances.
