Wind turbine calculations
This resource from the IET Faraday programme, supported by MEI and Tomorrow's Engineers, provides students with the opportunity to explore the mathematics behind wind turbines, including fractions, ratio and solving equations.
"A wind turbine is a device that converts the wind's kinetic energy into electrical power. Groups of large turbines, known as wind farms, are becoming an increasingly important source of intermittent renewable energy and are used by many countries as part of a strategy to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels."
The resource includes a presentation that introduces key concepts and a series of questions for students to explore. The activity overview includes classroom notes, discussion points, extension activity suggestions, answers, links to additional materials and details of the curriculum content covered.
