World Pole Climbing Championships: Track vs Tree Challenge
On Saturday 20 September 2014, during the final day of the Husqvarna World Pole Climbing Championships, England’s Commonwealth Games and European sprint star Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, took part in a unique 100m vs 25m race against Grant Gallier, the world 25m pole climbing champion. Harry ran 100m on a specially laid Olympic standard running track in an attempt to beat Grant who climbed 80ft (25m) vertically upwards on a huge Douglas Fir climbing pole. The infographic shows the forces involved on the climber and sprinter at different times in their motion.
