This resource from Boxford describes the use of SolidWorks CAD software and industry partnerships to develop a 3D clock project targeted at teenagers. It contains two articles written for D&T Practice and sample CAD drawings. Clocking On 1 introduces the challenge set for students and the design process that they undertook. It describes how students used card modelling techniques and CAD to solve design problems and perform stress analysis on their designs. Clocking On 2 is a follow up describing how students used an industry visit to support them in their work. It explains the use of STL files when rapid prototyping. A range of additional models that can be rapid prototyped are also shown. Curriculum links include how CAD can be used in the design process when designing, modelling and testing.
