Zones 5 and 6: Smart Buildings

This Crystal exhibition resource from Siemens highlights the high levels of inefficiencies in most buildings and offers solutions such as smart buildings, reducing resources and making buildings more efficient. Super Cool Uniform is a design project where students need to research optimum working temperatures in buildings and look at how they can design a uniform that would allow their school to become more sustainable by using less energy for heating and cooling. Students consider: • The factors which are involved in heating a workplace • The other influences which can play a part in workplace temperature • The properties of different fabrics • The constituent parts and design of a uniform • The popularity and viability of any design.
