Year Two: Spring Term. Old Curriculum
This resource from Hamilton Trust contains two weekly plans, teaching sequences and classroom resources. They cover ordering and comparing, rounding to the nearest 10, find pairs totalling 20 and counting on and back in tens. The detailed teaching sequences include differentiated activity ideas, suggested resources and notes on progression and misconceptions in the specific areas. Objectives are:
Week 1
- Mark two-digit numbers on a landmarked line
- Compare numbers using the symbols < and >
- Use ordinal numbers in context up to 10th and beyond
- Use knowledge of order of numbers and properties of number to describe/sort numbers
- Solve logic problems
- Round two-digit numbers to nearest multiple of ten
Week 2
- Find all pairs with a total of 20 and record the corresponding addition and subtraction facts
- Recognise the use of a symbol such as ■ to represent an unknown
- Imagine what action would be needed to solve a word problem and decide what calculation is necessary (addition or subtraction)
