Enhancing STEM Academics' Public Engagement Skills
These resources, from the HE STEM Programme South West, were produced to enable academic staff, undergraduates, masters and PhD students in higher education institutions to undertake more effective outreach through a better understanding of theory and practices with regard to school curricula and learning outcomes in the primary phase. It provides tools and examples to evaluate current offers, as well as plan and construct new projects. The guide includes: • A summary of policy and practice with reference to engaging young people and supporting teaching within STEM subjects • A brief introduction to whole school and classroom practice from Early Years and Foundation Stage through to Year Six • A short account of how the School of Earth Sciences at the University of Bristol is involved in effective public engagement activities • Recommendations for those in higher education institutions considering STEM public engagement
