Machines, Mechanisms and Mathematics
Machines, Mechanisms and Mathematics, part of the Mathematics for the Majority series produced by The Schools Council Project in Secondary School Mathematics, is aimed at expanding teachers’ knowledge, and is written in the belief that much of mathematics has been developed to solve practical problems. Many practical applications of mathematics are considered in the book. Each chapter has detailed explanations and diagrams followed by a series of work cards for use in the classroom. The chapters are entitled: *Linkages *Transmitting Rotary Motion *Rotary and Linear Motion Combined *Shapes for a Purpose and Loci All the activities are designed to give students an appreciation of the application of mathematics in the wider world.
